Who is Your Child Fighting? Their OCD or You?

This video is for educational purposes only and is not intended to replace the guidance of a qualified professional.

OCD loves to get our kids on the hamster wheel of rules, compulsions and avoidance. It dangles a carrot that says, “Just do what I want and all your discomfort will go away.” When our kids believe OCD’s lies they live in a world that is controlled by OCD.

In this YouTube video I talk to kids and teens about how OCD gets them to fight their family instead of OCD and how this pattern only makes their struggles worse.

They might demand that their family live under OCD’s control as well. Whole households can get hijacked by the demands of OCD. They might fight with their family for not giving in to what OCD wants.

It can help to take a closer look at what is going on. Who are they fighting? Their OCD or their family? Who is trying to help them? Their family or OCD?

The more our kids do what OCD wants, the bigger OCD grows. There is no long-term relief when they follow OCD’s rules.

When families learn that feeding OCD’s demands makes their struggles worse, they often pull back. You can only do your part in helping them detangle from this OCD beast.

In this week’s YouTube video I talk to kids and teens about how OCD gets them to fight their family instead of OCD and how this pattern only makes their struggles worse.
