Helping Kids with OCD Who have to Read and Reread
OCD can impact so much of our children’s lives, including their ability to read. Often this is missed completely or misdiagnosed as a learning issue.
OCD can make people feel that they might not have “fully” understood what they are reading. Or perhaps it makes them feel like they didn’t really read a sentence and to say they did would be “lying.”
Regardless of what intrusive thought is driving the compulsion, the end result is often the same – constant re-reading.
This can slow someone’s reading down so much that it can make it almost impossible to read at all.
In this week’s Youtube video I help kids and teens understand this OCD struggle and offer ways to overcome it.
