What Does the Feeling of Disgust Have to do with OCD?

I hear this over and over again. “I don’t have a fear. It is just GROSS!” or “I am not worried, it is just so DISGUSTING!” Often this can confuse parents and even professionals into believing there is no OCD hidden under these feelings. After all, where is the intrusive thought or the paralyzing fear? The feeling of disgust is often a missed OCD symptom.

Many people don’t realize that the feeling of disgust can be a big part of OCD. This week I am helping kids understand the feelings of disgust and OCD.

OCD comes in many shapes and sizes and one of it’s favorite disguises is discomfort and disgust. More later on discomfort, but for today we are diving deep into how OCD uses disgust as one of it’s favorite weapons of choice.

Watch this week’s kids Youtube video as I break down how OCD can use the power of disgust and how to fight back.
