Is Your Child Trying to Beat Contamination OCD? OCD Doesn’t Play Fair.

This video is for educational purposes only and is not intended to replace the guidance of a qualified professional.

If your child is struggling with contamination OCD they might be thinking they can keep themselves safe as long as they keep track of everything and anything that touches them or the things they care about. This can keep them so distracted and overwhelmed. It is like being on a hamster wheel they cannot get off. But they often think it is worth it, because they are able to control whether they get contaminated.

In this week’s YouTube video I talk about how contamination OCD is a game you cannot win and what to do instead!

But are they in control?

OCD doesn’t play a fair game. OCD cheats and makes sure they can’t win.

OCD can make them doubt what they know. It can make them question what they see, what they experience and what they know.

OCD can turn something contaminated without any proof it actually touched something else. It can make something contaminated just through doubt or irrational crazy-making.

That is not a fair game. It is a game that is set up for them to lose no matter what.

When our kids have contamination OCD the rules get longer and longer. The list of things contaminated keeps growing while their world continues to get smaller.

The only way for them to “win” this game is to not play it to begin with.

In this week’s YouTube video, I talk to kids, teens, and young adults about how contamination OCD is a game they cannot win and what to do instead!
